This plein air painting took several September / Octobers, and during that time, the title for it changed from "End" to "Ending." It's such a peaceful transition from summer to autumn, that it's delightfully impossible to say exactly where or when the one stops and the other starts. It's a whole story that can be listened to day by day. That is the subject of this painting, that first turning, and the flavors of the colors at this time of year.

Here is my easel at work on the last day. It has been so interesting to watch this spot evolve over my years here. The understory just past the foreground has really grown, many rocks in the painting have rolled, and you can see that my feet certainly left an "impression" ... it was always easy to find my spot 11 months later.
