This was my third full summer working on this piece, and what a pleasure it was to hang out with its peaceful and exciting vibe again. The paradox of this one is that pairing of tranquility with the exhileration of chasing after the light effects that are fairly dramatic and somewhat brief. I used my normal approach, which includes the idea that whatever doesn't flow off the brush quite right today, can be revisited tomorrow, or as many tomorrows as are needed. I will look forward to more of those days when summer returns.

Summer can feel like a wealth of time, but in its winding down, one can feel the fleeting nature of it also.

One afternoon these two youngsters on their own came near my easel, and then spent a good minute and a half puzzling about what to think of me. In this photo, I like how the ears on the right one seem to be expressing some concern, while they are learning all about their world
