I have a series of fallen tree paintings going through the seasons, and this is the summer version. It was such a pleasure to paint in green for the 3 months of working on this. One of the things I love about painting from life are all of the delightful color surprises along the way of working through it. Having seen them, I can bellieve them, and then have my best try at painting them.

On the second or the third to the last day of working on this piece, this Catbird lighted in the scene, flitted about, and cawed at me for a minute or two. I took it as a request to be added, and decided I couldn't resist. With the memory still fresh, they were added in the spirit of their presence ... subtle to the whole, but once you see them, there they are.
